Fall is here, Time to get ready for winter.
Summer is over for sure and we are busy at the farm getting ready for winter. Sometimes it feels that we spend 50% of our year getting ready for winter. Most of our equipment is washed, greased & oiled and put away in the shed, but we still have a few more pieces to get cleaned up before the big freeze comes.
Hopefully we can get another month or so before we have to put the animals in the barn as that is when a lot of the winter work starts and the manure pile starts getting big. We usually start putting animals in the barn when the water starts to freeze and the hoses stop flowing.
In October we got Lambs!! When you come and visit the farm you will now see lambs in the front pasture. We decided to try our skills at raising lambs and got 23 in to see if this is something we like having at the farm. The first couple weeks the sheep gave us an opportunity to interact with our neighbours and passers by more often than usual as the lambs discovered how to crawl under the electric and regular fence 2 or 3 times a day.
